I'm planning to apply for a front-end developer position at a Japanese company. I'm wondering if the resume format and interview atmosphere are very different from those in Korea. My Japanese proficiency is around N2 level.
18The biggest difference is in the application materials. In Japan, you write a “work history” document in addition to your resume. This document details what you were responsible for on each project and what technologies you used. It’s a good idea to spend some time on this. My impression is that during the interview itself, you’re often asked more about how you work within a team than about technical questions.
15With an N2 level, your application materials will be more than sufficient. However, during the interview, they’ll be assessing your ability to use honorifics to some extent. You don’t need to be perfect—if you don’t understand something, it makes a better impression to ask, “Could you repeat that, please?”
